Trip to Bestwood Country Park.

We went to visit the park looking for signs of Spring and collect natural materials, taking care not to pull pieces off living plants. We collected several bags of leaves, sticks etc. We enjoyed seeing horses in one of the fields and playing on the adventure park. We noted signs and signposts seen on the way along the paths and talked why signs were necessary.

Celebrating King Charles III’s coronation. This involved: making crowns; an orienteering course following the royal route; an assembly and slide show about royalty; singing the National anthem and a final celebration with a drink and shortbread biscuit.

Today was Shakespeare day, where the whole school had lessons based on the play Twelfth Night. In year one we watched a simplified short version of the play, explaining beforehand about the main theme of the play e.g. the female twin dressing as a boy. We talked about what twins were and the fact that while these twins were brother & sister, they looked alike. The children then went off to draw their own twin pictures, one being a girl and the other a boy.

Experimenting with programmable robots

Mr Beeston brought some yr 5 helpers down to year1 for an I.T.  lesson using Sphero, mini robots which are controlled via an iPad. The children spread out using the classroom, hall & corridor.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

As part of our project “Why are lions carnivores?” We went on a visit to this wildlife park to see wild animals in enclosures. There were many different animals which excited the children, having never seen them in true life. Animals like polar bears; wallabies; tigers and meerkats. They had to use their spotting skills as some were camouflaged. They also enjoyed the animated dinosaurs in the Pangea region.
