Aiming High to Excel and Exceed

Autumn Term

Our question this term is:- What makes people amazing? We will be learning about the 5 senses e.g. tasting different fruits and looking at emotions. Also we will be learning about some amazing people such as Tim Peake; Christopher Columbus; Ollie Hynd and Malala. In English we will be focusing on traditional tales starting with Little Red Riding Hood. In maths we have been on scavenger hunts to find the corresponding objects to a given number.

20/9/23

We were visited by Para-Olympian Ollie Hynd, a world record holding swimmer from Nottinghamshire. He spoke to the children about his swimming career and answered all their questions. He was a real inspiration to us all.

Today was Future me day, a fun day where the children participated in a variety of activities. The focus was on what they wanted to be when they grew up such as: doctor; vet; footballer or inventor! Healthy me involved a Tough Runner activity, an obstacle course involving a water slide! Great fun was had by all & they all needed their change of clothes!

In R.E. this term we are learning about Christianity.  We have been learning about parts of a church, so went to visit a local church.

As part of The Big Draw, parents could join their children in class to participate with them. Year 1’s theme was the 5 senses and involved them drawing their friend without being able to see what they’re doing. They were supposed to draw underneath a sheet of sugar paper. This proved a challenge for all but when it came to colouring their picture we allowed them to remove the covering paper.

In our art lessons we will learning about different artists and having a go at art in their styles.
