Spanish

Welcome to our Spanish Curriculum Page!

“Learning a foreign language is a liberation from insularity and provides an opening to other cultures.”

“Research shows that learning a second language boosts problem-solving, critical-thinking, and listening skills, in addition to improving memory, concentration, and the ability to multitask. Children proficient in other languages also show signs of enhanced creativity and mental flexibility.”

At Robin Hood, we aim to promote Spanish to pupils in our school. Some pupils at Robin Hood Primary School may not have the opportunity to visit other countries and therefore, we need to do our best to promote an awareness and appreciation of both their own cultures and other cultures surrounding them. As stated in the national curriculum for languages, this is with the long-term aim of providing children with the foundations to learn other languages later in life and equipping children to be able to work and study in other countries. We will raise the awareness of Spanish across our school and provide a clear and sequential series of lessons across KS2.

Spanish Fiesta day! (2023)

In January, all children across school took part in our Spanish fiesta day. Children took part in lots of great activities throughout the day including learning about 'The La Tomatina Festival' and 'The Sanfermin Festival.' Children learnt about the history behind these festivals and how they are celebrated and also took part in traditions associated with these festivals. Children also practised speaking the Spanish language throughout the day. Children were also treated to a delicious Spanish inspired lunch and could wear red and/or yellow or Spanish inspired clothing on the day!

dia Espanol! January 2022

Our Spanish theme day took place on Friday 21st January. On this day, the whole school took part in a variety of Spanish activities and traditions associated with Spain. KS2 children researched different Spanish speaking countries and created art work in the style of Pablo Picasso and Frida Khalo. There were also plenty of opportunities to practise their Spanish linguistic skills. Foundation and KS1 pupils sung songs in Spanish, created Spanish flags, practised Flamenco dancing and had lots of opportunities to practise speaking Spanish! It was brilliant to see so many children dressed in red and yellow! (both pupils and staff!) The children were also treated to a Spanish style menu at lunchtime, cooked and prepared by our brilliant dinner staff. We had a fantastic day!
