Aiming High to Excel and Exceed

Spring Term

Practising our number bonds to ten 😊

We loved watching ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ performed to us live in our school hall. It was really interesting talking to the actors after the show to find out more about what happens behind the scenes.

We were so excited to take part in our ‘Teddy Hospital’ where we learnt about x-rays, bandages and some of the important equipment used. It was really interesting and we asked some super questions.

We have been learning all about ‘Handa’s Surprise’ for our project and English sessions. We listened really well and asked some super questions as well as remembering the vocabulary in the story.

We loved our Spanish day. We participated in Flamenco dancing, Spanish phrases and art work.

We learnt a lot about Chinese New Year this week as a link to our project ‘Where in the world are we?’ and our English through the story of ‘Cleversticks’. We were very excited to taste test the different foods and were fabulous at writing numbers and names in Chinese writing. Some of us even wanted to write numbers beyond 10 and used what we knew about Chinese writing to do this. Amazing year 1!

We really enjoyed our project link of ‘Robin Hood’ and discussed our locality.

What a fantastic session we had with Liam today! The children learnt all about the play of a ‘Midsummer Nights Dream’. They loved playing the instruments and listening to the woodland sounds. It was magical and very well organised and presented 😊

Lost and found

This week we are focusing on the book Lost and found by Oliver Jeffers. We collaborated in groups to make our story maps.

We absolutely loved our Ambassador Games and worked very hard to complete world records. It was a lot of fun and we worked collaboratively and showed super resilience. It was also a great experience to work with the Ambassadors who were great leaders in these activities.

We have been observing the changes in sessions again and today we went out to see if we could spot any signs of winter and any early signs of spring. We were very excited to see so many signs of spring 😊

What a fantastic day!

We have really enjoyed our day out to Sherwood Forest 🌳

The children learnt all about the different trees in the forest, in particular the Major Oak which is estimated at being between 900-1100 years old! They walked a long way through the forest and were exceptional.

We had a fantastic time building dens and we even met the very famous and legendary Robin Hood who shared with us some of his amazing tales, as well as letting us hold his sword and showing us some real coins which were very very old!

‘I’m Little John! I’m so BIG, I’m so STRONG!’

The children absolutely loved listening to the story of Robin Hood and learning about his Merry Men. We had a great time acting out some of the scenes from the tales,

We were very proud of the children during this activity. They worked so hard and were very respectful of each other’s dens as well as showing super sensible behaviour when handling the resources.

We have been learning all about the story of ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers as well as learning more about where we live. In this session we drew and wrote the differences between the South Pole and Bestwood.
