Aiming High to Excel and Exceed

Spring Term 1

Digestive System

The children were recreating the digestive system. They mushed up food, as the stomach would and mixed water and acids in to create soup or chyme. Then the food was transferred to a pair of tights, which was like the small intestine. The runny food escaped from the tights, as the nutrients would have been absorbed into the blood stream. We copied off the large intestine by applying paper towels and taking away all of the water and salts. In the end, we were left with waste which we squeezed out through a small hole we had cut in the tights.

Virtual Reality Day.

To help us understand understand how the Digestive System works, we were fortunate enough to have a Virtual Reality workshop which allowed us to go inside the human body and explore each organ that is essential to digestion. This was amazing fun and we loved seeing first hand how poo was made!

Merchant of Venice

As part of our RSC work around this year’s text of “Merchant of Venice” we had a workshop with a local musician. He taught us all about rhyme, iambic pentameter and beat so that we could create our own verse. We looked at call and response and showed great confidence in performing our lyrics to the rest of the class.
