Aiming High to Excel and Exceed

Autumn Term

In Science, we have started off our unit by exploring what is alive, dead and never alive. We had a fantastic discussion around what it means to be never alive (plastics, metals) and what type of things have been alive before but are now no longer (fossils, Autumn leaves). We discussed what it also means to be alive and how to identify this by using MRS GREN.

In Maths, we have been exploring place value, with a particular focus on tens and ones. In this session, the children drew representations of how many tens and ones were in a number using partitioning.

In Maths, the children worked hard to partition numbers, paying particular attention to the tens to start.

We absolutely loved our trip to the Tropical Buttefly House as part of our English unit about animals in the rainforest. The children were fully immersed in the world of caimans, butterflies and macaws.

Today in English, the children have been familiarising themselves with time conjunctions. We did this through sequencing our morning routine and using the new vocabulary verbally.

Today the children recalled their trip The Tropical Butterfly House and chose appropriate time conjunctions to match. They worked in pairs and collaborated beautifully.

Today was Power of Play day! We had so much fun playing with our friends and older children in school.

The children have been writing their independent recounts in English and we couldn’t be prouder! Fantastic use of phonics and vocabulary, adjectives, expanded noun phrases, transcriptional fluency, handwriting, conjunctions and content. Well done!
