Aiming High to Excel and Exceed

Spring Term

To start our new English unit, we learnt about Tudor Houses. We drew and labelled a picture of a Tudor House and found out fun facts about them.

After learning about instruction writing and writing their own, the children swapped instructions and used each others to make Tudor Houses.

3D shapes can be tricky! The children have even exploring the vocabulary for the properties of these shapes by matching them to the correct shape.

The children have started their new unit in English. This time they are working their way up to writing a diary entry for The Great Fire of London. Today in immersion, we concentrated on diary entries and the common features found in them.

Two more immersive sessions in our English unit, where the children have explored key vocabulary linked to The Great Fire of London.

In History this week, we have continued to learn more about The Great Fire of London. One of the key words for this session was chronological and we discussed the meaning behind this word and why it holds such an important place in History. The children then placed the events in chronological order on to a time line and then acted out each event in pairs.

The children have started their new unit in Maths, which is money. In this session, they looked at the value of the coins and notes and compared them using the inequality symbols. An excellent job done all round!

The children had a great time during The Ambassador Games. It was brilliant to see children from different key stages working so well together.

The children have worked exceptionally hard when exploring texts linked to The Great Fire of London, as well as identifying proper and common nouns and then writing superb pieces in their jotters.

Today the children made masquerade ball masks to start their English unit on Romeo and Juliet. Over the next three weeks we will focus on the love between Romeo and Juliet in preparation to write a retell of the moment they met.

Today the local fire service came to visit to teach us about fire safety.

We had a fantastic World Book celebrating books. Look at our wonderful costumes!

The children have been considering ways to support themselves when they are not in the green zone.

An amazing home project inspired by our moving toys in DT.

The children had a wonderful time working collaboratively to make their product following their designs of a moving toy. It was great to see such a variation in designs and products. Next week, the children will evaluate their products against their design criteria and discuss what went well, what they could improve, what they found tricky and what they would like to do next time.

Our Project Outcome ... what an experience! The children got the opportunity to recreate The Great Fire of London. After spending several weeks learning about this historical event, creating Tudor Houses, writing about it in English and having a visit from firefighters, it was time to end our project and burn the Tudor Houses.
